Connecting people to nature.
We are committed to protecting habitat.
The Norfolk Land Trust was created in 1982 to encourage the preservation of natural heritage and open space in Norfolk, Connecticut. We are an all-volunteer organization committed to protecting Norfolk's natural resources for future generations—resources including pristine waterways, wetlands, meadows and woodlands that provide habitat for plants and animals.
We maintain more than 20 miles of trails, all of which are open to the public.
Our mission is to protect natural resources in Norfolk and the surrounding area through land conservation and education, to provide opportunities for public recreation, and to foster support for the preservation of open space.
We have protected more than 4,000 acres of open space through conservation easements and owned preserves.
Conservation easements are legal agreements that permanently limit the use of land to protect its conservation value. Easements are among the most effective tools for conserving environmentally valuable areas while leaving these properties on tax rolls. Through generous gifts, government grants and innovative financing, the Norfolk Land Trust has also acquired several parcels of land, including our most recent addition: 235 acres in South Norfolk previously owned by the Kopp family. These acquisitions help maintain a north-south wildlife corridor and have enhanced our extensive trail system.
